Working Mama Spotlight on Heather Frankford
Where are you from: Greenfield, Indiana
Where do you live now: Noblesville, Indiana
Career: I recently started my own company and blog, called Suburban Boy Mom. It is a Lifestyle blog primarily for women that includes recipes, DIY projects, women issues, motherhood and so much more. We are currently in phase 1, with lots of additional avenues of the company to come.
Family life: I have been married to my husband for 9 years, and we have 2 boys- Tegan, who is getting ready to turn 7, and Logan, who is getting ready to turn 3. I also have 2 dogs, a Yorkie-Poo named Paris, and a Shorkie named Zoey.
Favorite family fun spot/activity: As a family, we love to visit The Children’s Museum, Holland Park in Fishers, and Indianapolis Indians games in the summer.
Favorite "me-time" activity: Watching mindless reality shows, hanging out with my friends, and decorating my new home.
What are you reading right now? My oldest son and I just started reading "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" together. I read “Moo, Baa, Fa La La” about 15 times a day with my youngest, and when I get a chance to read something for myself, I have been reading "The Magnolia Story" by Chip and Joanna Gaines.
Best Mom Moment: My best mom moments are definitely watching my kids overcome obstacles. As parents, it’s difficult when you aren’t able to fix everything, but there is no greater feeling than seeing your child succeed.
Career Highlight(s): Before I launched Suburban Boy Mom, I worked at a corporate office and served on a Board with the VP of the company, implementing a new way for the company to do business.
What you love about being a Hoosier? I love that no matter where you are in the state, you still have that “small town” feel. People are genuinely kind, and you feel connected to each other, even if you are on opposite ends of the state. Plus, we have the Colts!
As a child, what did you want to be when you grow up? A dolphin trainer at The Indianapolis Zoo! I still make sure to check out the dolphin show every time I visit the zoo!
Where you want to be in 10 years? In 10 years I would love for Suburban Boy Mom to be fully up and running (we have several more phases to come). I look forward to traveling more with my family, and hope to have visited more destinations on my travel wish list with my kids.
My biggest mistake: My biggest mistake was putting my success in other people’s hands. This is how Suburban Boy Mom finally came to be, and I have built it from scratch on my own.
Career/Parenting advice you would like to share with other working mamas: Parent the way YOU see fit. Any and everyone will have advice for how you should be doing it, but do your own, educated research and do what works best for you, your kids and your family.
