Working Mama Spotlight on Kelly Sutter
Name: Kelly Sutter
Where are you from: Carmel, Indiana
Where do you live now: Fishers, Indiana
Education: BS from Indiana University
Career: I have been in marketing for about 15 years. Last September, I ventured out to start my own company, Wild Flamingo Marketing. I specialize mostly in strategy, social media and creating websites.
Family life: I met my husband Aaron during my first weekend of college back in 2001. Our first "baby" is our dog Kilroy, of course named after the bar at IU. We welcomed our son in 2014 and our daughter in 2017.
Favorite Indy Eats: This is a tough one! We like to call ourselves foodies, but that was a bit easier before kids. A few date night favorites include Bluebeard, Mama Carolla's, Union 50, and Tinker Street. With the kids, our favorites are Ale Emporium, Riviera Maya, Four Day Ray, and Boombozz.
Favorite family fun spot/activity: We love all of the events held in downtown Fishers, like the concerts on Tuesday evenings in the summer and the farmers markets. We love traveling to the beach. We have a pool, so we spend a lot of time in the backyard swimming with friends and family.
Favorite "me-time" activity: Probably going to the gym, even though I need to go more often. Also, it's a small thing, but after the kids are at school, just sitting down to read my daily blogs with a cup of coffee. I work from home, and it's so peaceful and rejuvenating to me when the house is quiet.
Best Mom Moment: When my kids tell each other "I love you" or give hugs.
Career Highlight(s): Starting my own marketing company last year! Also, joining the "MOMprenuer" community. One of the highlights was a feature done by The Indy Channel earlier this year about MOMprenuers finding balance between work and family. Watch the video here.
What you love about being a Hoosier? I love all of the family friendly activities and our friends that we have here.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grow up? A lawyer so I could argue all day.
Where you want to be in 10 years? Still running my own business. It's the perfect mix of being more available for my kids and still staying true to my passion for marketing.
My biggest mistake: Not leaving the corporate world sooner. I really kick myself!
Career/Parenting advice you would like to share with other working mamas: Find groups of women to learn from and support you. Since starting my own business, I've started blogging for Indianapolis Moms Blog, joined TheCityMoms, and networked though Indy Momprenuers. Even if it's just online, I connect with like-minded, supportive women every day.
