Education: BA from Western Michigan University

Career: Assistant Director for Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS Indiana), VIPS is a nonprofit that provides early intervention to babies and toddlers with blindness/low vision throughout the state. I raise the money necessary to provide our specialized services at no cost to the families. I’m also the mom of a little girl who is legally blind and was served by the agency. It’s pretty rewarding to be able to give back to the agency that helped change the course of our lives.

Daring to Dream: Owning Your Own Business

My first attempt as an entrepreneur was a complete and utter failure.

I was young and stupid and bought a restaurant. My current role as a sales rep for a large global organization brings some peace with being a worker bee for a large organization.

But I still dream about one day being a successful entrepreneur. My favorite issue of Entrepreneur Magazine is the franchise issues. Who knew you had to have so much liquid cash to start a Great Clips???

Legally Momming: A Working Mom's Tribe

Nothing is more important than a mom’s tribe. You need people who understand your shared experiences. I have a great tribe of friends and family - both mom and not. Almost all are people I was friends with pre-kids or met in situations sans kids. As a working mom, especially, it feels hard to make new mom-friends when you only have so many mom hours available each week. I’ve chatted up other moms while sitting at soccer or the playground, but it feels so fleeting and transient. It’s hard to make plans to get together without sounding like a weirdo, and most of the time I’m trying to keep an eye on my darting pre-schooler, feed my hangry baby, or respond to a few emails.
